Fluctuation corrections to bubble nucleation.

چکیده

The fluctuation determinant which determines the preexponential factor of the transition rate for minimal bubbles is computed for the electroweak theory with sinΘW = 0. As the basic action we use the three-dimensional high-temperature action including, besides temperature dependent masses, the TΦ one-loop contribution whcih makes the phase transition first order. The results show that this term (which has then to be subtracted from the exact result) gives the dominant contribution to the one-loop effective action. The remaining correction is of the order of, but in general larger than the critical bubble action. The results for the Higgs field fluctuations are compared with those of an approximate heat kernel computation of Kripfganz et al., good agreement is found for small bubbles, strong deviations for large thin-wall bubbles. e-mail: [email protected]

Fermionic fluctuation corrections to bubble nucleation.

We determine the fermionic corrections to the nucleation rate of bubbles at the electroweak phase transition. The fermion determinant is evaluated exactly and by using the gradient expansion. The gradient expansion is found to be a reliable approximation and is used to extrapolate to the large values of νn = (2n+ 1)πT needed in the Matsubara sum. The contribution to effective action is found to...

A consistent approach to bubble-nucleation theory

We summarize recent work on the consistent calculation of bubble-nucleation rates. Our approach is based on the notion of a real coarse-grained potential. The bubble-nucleation rate is calculated through an expansion around the semiclassical saddle point associated with tunnelling. We resolve outstanding problems related to the convexity of the potential, the double-counting of the effect of fl...

Availability Analysis For Heterogeneous Nucleation In A Uniform Electric Field

Industrial demands for more compact heat exchangers are a motivation to find new technology features. Electrohydrodynamics (EHD) is introduced as a promising phenomenon for heat transfer enhancement mechanisms. Similar to any new technology, EHD has not been understood completely yet and requires more fundamental studies. In boiling phase change phenomena, nucleation is the dominant mechanism i...

Analytical Calculation of the Nucleation Rate for First Order Phase Transitions beyond the Thin Wall Approximation

First order phase transitions in general proceed via nucleation of bubbles. A theoretical basis for the calculation of the nucleation rate is given by the homogeneous nucleation theory of Langer and its field theoretical version of Callan and Coleman. We have calculated the nucleation rate beyond the thin wall approximation by expanding the bubble solution and the fluctuation determinant in pow...

Gauge independence of the bubble nucleation rate in theories with radiative symmetry breaking.

In field theories where a metastable false vacuum state arises as a result of radiative corrections, the calculation of the rate of false vacuum decay by bubble nucleation depends on the effective potential and the other functions that appear in the derivative expansion of the effective action. Beginning with the Nielsen identity, we derive a series of identities that govern the gauge dependenc...
